As power women, we deserve our sleep more than anyone else. The next day, we can shine and make impact again in a well-rested state. However, it is very sad that many of us struggle with sleep problems. There may be several factors underlying this. Examples include stress, anxiety, worry, physical complaints, alcohol consumption and sleep apnea. Innocent-looking habits can also contribute to insomnia or poor sleep quality, such as stuffing yourself before bedtime or intensive physical exercise just before heading to bed. We at Cabau Lifestyle have come up with some useful tips and tricks that can help you wave the sleep problems goodbye.
No more afternoon napsFor some of us, a power nap does wonders, while for others it causes sleepless nights. If you belong to the group that finds it difficult to fall asleep in the night because of a nap, it is better to avoid them from now on. Since you have already slept in the afternoon, you feel less tired at night and are less likely to end up in dreamland. An afternoon nap can therefore disrupt your normal sleeping pattern. It is also better that you teach yourself to associate sleep with a dark room (when it is night) and a fixed bedtime. That way, they can act as cues to lull you to sleep.
Do you also often feel that you are very tired and in need of a good night's sleep, but your thoughts keep you awake? They keep floating in your mind. One way to get rid of them is to write them down in a journal or our Bloombook. This way, you give them a place. In addition, these thoughts are often related to problems and worries that absorb a lot of your energy and attention. By writing them down, you also make them more concrete and manageable for you to tackle the next day. It will lead to more peace in your head, which allows you to sleep better.
Clear your mind
Some drinks such as coffee and other caffeine-containing drinks can keep you wide awake in the night. Other drinks promote sleep because of the calming effect they have. Chamomile tea is the most well-known of the bunch and has been used for centuries to enhance sleep. This is thanks to its relaxing effect on the body, nerves and mind.
Drinking before bedtime
Milk, soy milk and banana smoothies also contribute to a good night's sleep. This is because they all contain the substance tryptophan. This serves as raw material for serotonin and melatonin. These are the so-called happiness hormones that give you a happy feeling and can help to stimulate sleep.
At Cabau Lifestyle, we have also delved into improving sleep quality. As mentioned above, we believe that every power woman deserves to both get a good night's sleep and dream big. Only then will you be able to make the best out of the next day with full energy and turn dreams into reality. In this light, we created Sleep Well. This goodie has as its main ingredient the before-described tryptophan but also magnesium and valerian. These are known as substances that contribute to a feeling of relaxation and stress relief. They, in turn, act as ingredients for a higher-quality sleep. Take 30 to 40 minutes before bedtime one portion of Sleep Well. With the delicious taste of forest fruits, it is such a joy to drink and the perfect treat to yourself just before going to bed.
In addition to the aforementioned drinks, there are also some sleep-inducing foods. Bananas, almonds, figs, peanut butter oatmeal, (sweet) potatoes are our best friends in this regard. When you eat this before tucking yourself in bed, you will notice a positive effect on the quality of your sleep and dreams. Also, bear in mind to not eat anything one hour before bedtime. If not, your body will be busy digesting the food which, in turn, could keep you awake and alert.
Eat yourself to sleep
Relaxation before bedIn the hours approaching bedtime, try to relax. It is best to skip intensive physical activities, extensive eating and work. These activities keep your body and/or brain active and hinder you from sleeping. Instead, it is better to do relaxing things. For example, think about listening to music, taking a warm bath or reading a light hearted book. Before you know it, you will fall asleep in no time.
The above tips will help you sleep like a baby and dream like a champ. Better sleep leads to bigger dreams. These, in turn, open new doors for you. What you can dream, you can turn into reality with focus, hard work and dedication. We got this, ladies! With these tips, everyone can be sleeping beauty and wake up the following day making their big dreams come true.
