Hi there! I am mental coach Claudia and in this blog I help powerwomen to gain more control over their lives to achieve better results. Besides being a mental coach, I am an enthusiastic athlete with an elephantine love of tasty, healthy (and plenty of!) food.

#3 Make your dreams come true!
What is your passion? What do you want? What makes you happy? Those important questions in life are often difficult to answer. Yet, we are about to dig deep and start looking for the answers to these questions. Why? Because you need the answers to these questions in order to turn your dreams into reality.
Red lips and costumes
Music, mirrors, and colourful sports outfits. I have been a dancer since I was six years old. At that age, I was doing jazz ballet and I dreamt of performing on big stages in front of the crowd. Initially, it was all about the glamour, glitter and red lips. However, later I realized what dancing really meant to me. The six-year-old me wasn’t overwhelmed by all that Hollywood glam. What made her so passionate about dancing was the rhythm, the elegant movements and the emotions that you could express through dancing without saying a word. I love the way in which our own body has the power to transform energy into even more and even greater energy.
Study, develop & share
I was six year old and I had a dream. A dream to turn my passion for dancing into my profession. I couldn’t imagine a life without doing some sort of dancing. Turning your dream into reality requires action. Try to consider what it takes to realise your dream. In my situation, I decided to enroll in the Central Institute for Training Sports Leaders (CITS). After this, I participated in a course for aerobics instructors. I started to give dance classes for children and later I also started to give sport classes for adults. All those steps were needed to turn my dream into reality. “You have the power to make any dream come true. You are responsible for your own life. You determine who you are and what you stand for.”
Formulate smart goals
Dreams and goals are often mentioned in the same breath while goals are more specific than dreams. Let me help you formulate your goals specifically and break them down into realistic steps.
- Write down your goal: what do I want, who do I want to be?
- Concretise your goal: make sure it’s realistic and attainable.
- Use positive words: what am I good at, what is the first thing that comes to my mind when I wake up?
- Goals are dreams with a deadline: when are you going to start, when will you achieve your goal?
- Now that you’re on fire: what else do you want to change?
Let’s Do This!
Next up: establish steps to reach your goal. We’ll do this based on the pillars of mental coaching and the Let's Do This! method: learn to think differently, be solution-oriented, use common sense and be honest with yourself. Transform negative thoughts into positive thoughts and replace ineffective thinking patterns with productive thinking patterns. This means turning problems, that you encounter along the way, into solutions. Surround yourself with supportive people and if possible, people (in the Cabau Community) who want to join you. Finally, enjoy the process towards your goal. Don’t postpone happiness to tomorrow if you can be happy today.

Small steps & grand dreams
The reason why transforming your goals into small steps is such a cliche, is because it works! It does not mean that small steps result in slower progress. Quite the opposite, small steps facilitate progress. Try to imagine a muffin recipe. If the recipe would just say “pour the batter into the tin and bake in the oven” , we would see a lot of different muffins as a result, and I am not just talking about the shape of the muffins. By writing down small steps, baking muffins becomes easier and the progress more structured. so, the steps that you define to achieve success form the recipe for your dream life. Again, it is all about the process. Try to enjoy it and I am sure that you will love the end result even more. I mean, if you just wanted muffins, you could have bought them at the supermarket instead of baking them, right?
Your goal is achieved: you have lost 20 pounds, you have got a new job, you have been promoted at work or contact with your parents or friends has improved. Be proud of yourself! Tell yourself how proud you are and try to give yourself those well-deserved compliments. It is not about how proud other people are of you, it is about how proud you are of yourself. Take a moment to realize that you have the power to make your dream come true.
